Legal graph

How is legal work described? Each point is a concept from an open legal-industry standard: an area of law, a court, a kind of document, a party. It is joined to the concept above it and to the concepts it relates to.

All data on this page comes from open sources online. It includes no confidential, client or employer data.

Method
  • Every class of the standard becomes a point, coloured by the group of its top-level category.
  • Lines follow the standard: the class hierarchy (subclass of), cross-references (see also) and the named relations it defines between concepts, such as a court that appeals to another.
  • Unnamed or retired entries (the sandbox branch and anything marked deprecated) are left out. Editorial notes and translations are not shown.
  • The layout is computed once, offline: each category is a cluster, and categories that share many relations sit close together. Distance inside a cluster reflects the hierarchy, not meaning.
  • The groups (law and matters, places and bodies, parties, documents and data, economy, reference) are my own colouring of the categories, not part of the standard.

Data: SALI's Legal Matter Standard Specification (LMSS), an open standard for describing legal work. Concept names and definitions are SALI's; the view is my own build.
